Between April 21 and April 28, U.S. markets steadied after several turbulent weeks, with a wave of upbeat corporate earnings offering a boost to investor morale.
The tone shifted early in the week as several high-profile companies exceeded expectations, particularly in the technology and financial sectors. Investors, who had been cautious amid lingering inflation and policy worries, began to rotate back into risk assets. Midweek, positive earnings surprises from major chipmakers and banks helped lift sentiment, while energy stocks followed oil prices higher.
Even so, not all sectors participated equally. Defensive names lagged as capital rotated toward growth, and bond yields edged higher as traders reassessed the likelihood of Fed rate cuts later this year. Still, by week’s end, markets closed higher across the board — a sign that confidence may be slowly returning as investors refocus on fundamentals rather than fear-driven selling.
