Between March 31 and April 7, U.S. equity markets endured another volatile week, as renewed tariff concerns and weakening sentiment pushed major indexes lower.

The S&P 500 briefly fell back toward its March lows, while the Nasdaq and Dow Jones also suffered declines, led by technology and industrial names.

The early part of the week saw cautious optimism following hints of potential diplomatic progress in ongoing trade negotiations. However, that optimism quickly faded when the administration confirmed sweeping reciprocal tariffs on key imports, some exceeding 100%. The sudden announcement triggered a broad risk-off reaction, as investors sought safety in gold and bonds. By week’s end, the tone had shifted firmly defensive, with traders watching closely for signals of stabilization in both policy and earnings outlooks.
